About Us

Out of the Fire Studio is owned and operated by Cindy Clarke and her husband Jim Willett. Cindy has been a potter all her life, first as a child with clay from her mother's garden in Dawson Creek British Columbia, then in elementary and high schools and finally as a profession. While Cindy currently does all the wheel work, Jim assists with the myriad other tasks involved in running a studio and retail store including web site maintenance and design and labeling, packaging and shipping.

Re-located in August of 2001 from Edson to Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, the studio is the home of  all types of wheel thrown and hand built pottery items. We have produced a video for beginning potters called "A Down to Earth Look at How We Make Pottery"   and it is available for sale here and at various retail outlets. Our two youngest children Kaileigh and John Slowinski help to make this a real family business. Kaileigh graduated from Victoria School of Visual and Performing Arts and is starting her own web design business in our upstairs office, while John has returned to school in grade eleven also at "Vic" where he specializes in music and video arts. We will be using John's camera and editing skills to add to our pottery videos and also for Kaileigh's web sites. Jim has three older children and four grandchildren. His two daughters Wendi and Keisha and their families live in Alberta. Jim's son Torrey and his wife are transferring from Hawaii to Virginia in June where Torrey will serve with the U.S. Navy aboard the Harry S. Truman aircraft carrier.
